Bike Charity

Evening everyone

Just wanna say a massive thanks you the guys at www.rezurgence.com for fixing my daughters bike tonight.

They are a christain based bike charity who go around schools and youth clubs in Hampshire giving free saftey checks and making small adjustments.

They also do UV sticker applications as well

For more information either click this link, www.rezurgence.com/workbench or click on the link in the links tab on the right.

And before you all comment that this is nothing to do with the tunnel it is a tedious sort of way. Many of you that go and have a look at the tunnel and the works ride your bikes, specially now the weather is getting nicer. What a better time to make sure your all safe and sound.

Keep on diggin.........

No one knows. Or at least no ones telling the likes of us.

But I shall not air my grievences on that subject or shall be in trouble.

If you want to keep your blog going after the tunnel is opened, perhaps a uesful thing you could do (and charities like this might join in) is argue for better cycling provision around Hindhead once the ol road closes.

Having spent £371m on a tunnel for cars, it is apity they are so tight fisted when it comes to new cycle paths, bridle ways etc.

How about a decent off-road cycle link from the Hindhead are down to Haslemere, and from the Thursley area to Godalming, perhaps alongside the A3 over Rodborough Common, where there is certainly enough room on the western side of the road and a tunnel under just outside Milford.

For now we have in store a good cycle route to join Hindhead to Thursley, but it is rather a route from nowhere to nowhere, it needs wider connections.

Has anyone noticed that the delays at Hindhead have got even worse in the last couple of days? Am I getting far too cynical or is it possible that someone has reset the priorities at the lights on the assumption that the tunnel would be open by now? The cross traffic seems to be getting far more time!!

Just spoken to (a stressed sounding) Charlotte Barrett who works in Project Support at the Highways Agency who told me the July date for the tunnel opening will be confirmed via a national press release...

I come from Haslemere direction to join the A3 at the lights and it certainly dosen't feel there is any more priority at the lights, infact it feels worse as well. Earlier this week the A286 at Grayswood was closed due to an accident which sent lots more traffic Hindhead way.
I wonder if traffic from further afield is coming this way expecting/hopeing the tunnel has opened or just wanting to experience the devils punch bowl and the delays one last time.
I personally don't think the delays will be any less, they are just going to move up the road to Guildford. It's bad enough at the moment by the junction with the hogsback, imagine a 3rd more traffic racing to Guildford without the restriction of the Hindhead lights!

Bum! I am driving to Pompey tomorrow. I have put this journey off for months and was convinced the tunnel woul dbe open by the 16th July. But it seems it will not!

Still the kids have to see their grandmother!

That's a good point that anonymous raises - nothing is for free - if we all get through hindhead quicker, we'll choke up the M27 more, if you're southbound, or guildford for Northbound. Deep joy!

I think the M27 is too far to be directly affected by Hindhead traffic. The next potential spot southbound is the A3 roundabout before Petersfield. That's the only point where traffic needs to slow down.

Northbound I can see the Guildford 50mph section being affected. But that could be easily solved with some better driving!

The Guildford 50 mph section? I reckon that's probably one of the most ignored speed limits in the country. 90% of vehicles, from cars to trucks, speed through way over 50!.

I don't really see why some people are suggesting that the congestion will just move elsewhere when the tunnel opens. There will be the same amout of traffic at the points mentioned points as there is now, it will just get through Hindhead more quickly. And there are no traffic lights on the M27, or anywhere else on the A3, unlike Hindhead.

I just wish SOMEBODY could give us a b****y opening date!!!!

A lot of peak time A3 traffic is currently using the A31 via Selborne to the M3 or to the Hogsback for people going to Heathrow or Guildford.

Peak time traffic to Dover and Gatwick and the east of England is probably routing on the A272 to the M23.

Once the tunnel is open the the traffic will try to go thru the tunnel and discover that the Guildford bypass is a problem followed by the congestion on the M25 will then revert back to their preferred routings not involving the A3

It seems to me that the problems in Guildford are nearly all to do with the poor junction arrangements. One in particular is people coming off the A31 to travel 100 metres on the A3 and then get back off the A3 to go to the science park/hospital. I suggest they run a relief road from the A31 to the back of the science park, this would only have to be a few hundred metres long and would remove a lot of the unnecessary merging and the associated jams at the tesco roundabout.
