Hey! Do you know what the building is for that's near one of the entrances? Is it an office for the tunnel or something, monitoring etc?

Hiya,

The building is the secondary services building which will house emergency vehicles and such.

The main monitoring building is at the northern end but there will be some monitoring going on at this one.

they are much larger once you get down beside them!

Is there any idea of the opening date? The sailing season starts mid April and the new road will cut time driving down.

Thanks

Actually to be more precise the Secondary Tunnel Service Building (STSB) holds the water tanks and pumps for the fire fighting systems (no vehicles) and has the same control sytems as in the Principal Tunnel Service Building (PTSB) at the Northern end. The only difference really is that the STSB is not manned and has no control room, only a desk in a corner for emergency use should the PTSB be out of action due to a fire in the building per-se. Both building have independant 11kV supplies capable of running the tunnel independantly, breaching points outside for Fire Brigade Appliances to charge the fire main should the all pumps in the STSB fail. Hope that helps!

I've been wondering, Who IS Miss James Footbridge?

Is she one of the Farnham Footbridges?

Isn't James a strange name for a girl?

;O)
