Some great photos.

Driving alongside the new South bound carriageway today, I see that they have set up specs average speed cameras on the new carriageway. Don't be tempted to drive too fast on that nice new tarmac when it opens!

What will be the speed limit in the tunnel and its approach roads?

Hi Toby,

I'm not 100% certain to be honest mate. I would assume that the A3 itself will stay at 70 but I would assume the tunnel would be slightly less, something like 50 or 60. If i find out I will let you guys know!

Apologies for short reply, the speed limit will be 70 all the way through, no reduction for the tunnel

Thanks. I am looking forward to dropping a gear or two and seeing how much noise I can make in the tunnel :-)

Hi. I saw the pictures about the A3 and the congestion that Hinehead is facing which is horrible. Who much is it to build a tunnel that links London and Portsmouth Bound traffic on the A3 passing throught the new tunnel. Last week me and my family were travelling from Essex to see our Nan in Hampshire and we've driven through Hinehead village and I saw the new A3 bypass heading towards the tunnel which is now under construction. Is it going to be open in winter or summer 2011 for the A3 traffic away from Hinehead village. Thanks

Many thanks for your comments!

The whole project is costing £371 million.

It is due to open in Summer 2011

Happy new year!
