Well Done's!!!!!!

Hey everyone

So the big day is drawing ever closing and we are now looking forward to the grand opening!!!

So I would just like to take this opportunity to say a few well done's to everyone.

Firstly thank you and well done to all my loyal followers and readers. Without you guys none of this would have been worth it. Thank you to everyone that has bothered and taken the time to send in photo's and comments. You guys have made this blog a success and you are all wonderful people!

Secondly well done to the the Highways Agency for implementing such an massive project. It is been really well thought through and for keeping everyone so updated on what was going on.

Thirdly well done to everyone to the constructors. You have built a truly remarkable feat of engineering and to such a high standard. To every person that was involved from the tunnelers, the ground workers, painters, electricians, everyone that was involved you all deserve a massive well done.

And finally to everyone else that was involved well done. After finding out Hindhead would be subject to 4 years of major roadworks and delays it really has not been as bad as we all thought it would be.

On behalf of every single person that will go through Hindhead whiteout and problems/delays thank you.

Keep on diggin............

and no thanks for the politicians and civil servants that that delayed the start of this project for the best part of 50 years.

The Victorians would be through to the Isle of Wight by now. It is only just over a mile long and it has taken years. . Al Thorp

So why does the electronic sign in the work site (Thursley side) of the tunnel, say 2 weeks only till open, this changed from 3 weeks to 2 weeks on Wednesday and has been counting down for the past 6 weeks, that would suggest the 7th is a good shout

it's been better going through hindhead since the works began than it was before!
Many happy hours spent sat there! Well done with the management of this project

I have no knowledge of when the tunnel will actually open - but if I were to guess it would be sometime after July 23rd - once the schools have finished for the summer. This will mean lower traffic levels until September - and thus it will be less likely to see any immediate issues. Just my guess

Being raised in the area and now living in Boston USA. I would like to know if there is an actual official opening date? The reason I ask is that I shall be in UK from 7 Jul to 12 Jul and would like to drive through the tunnel while I'm in the area.

I'm 74yrs old now, this tunnel has been talked about since I was a kid at school in Grayshott.

6th July seems the best estimate for the opening. Statutory notices have been published in the local paper relating to various speed limits and no waiting orders as applied to the new road and the existing approaches to it, all of them give 6th July when they come into effect.

Ok news is south bound tunnel will open on the 6th July north bound 1-2 weeks later as centre res crash barrier needs to be done and the new north bound road needs to be laid to connect old A3 to new road.

Thanks for you work with this blog. It was a great idea right from the start and I am pleased that you have had so much support from others to keep it a very interesting site.
Once we are driing through, we will think of you!
BTW. When I was a child (55 years ago)I remember being taken by bus from Liss to Southsea, before the A3 was cut trough Buser Hill. Does anyone know when this was done?

I remember crawling up the old A3 over Butser behind a smelly, decrepit bus. It must have been around 1970 and the first part of the new road opened not too long after that - so early 70s? The A3(M) opened c.1975/6 when I was at school in Havant.

It won't open on the 7th of July because that is the anniversary of the Tube bombings. It is supposed to open on the 6th June but I have received an email letting me knopw that the opening party has been put back (I work for BB) so it may be delayed.
