More Pics and some interesting facts and figures

Here's some interesting facts and figures for you
The Northbound Tunnel is only 257 meters from breakthrough as of today, predicted date for breakthrough is around 15/16/17th of February
There is over 5km of rubber belt used in the conveyor system that exports the soil out of the tunnels
There are 16 cross passage tunnels between the 2 main tunnels
There is 360,000+ tons of earth to be moved via the conveyor from the South portal to the North portal after breakthrough
Should 1 of the tunnels be closed there will be a contra flow, meaning single lane traffic via 1 tunnel, 1 lane southbound and 1 lane northbound
There is 14 miles of fencing used around the site
They are using Ultra Low Sulpher White Diesel in the vehicles in the tunnel to minimise the risk of the workers being overcome by fumes
Many thanks to Rustycee for the brilliant photo's and the facts and figures - we all look forward to receiving more!!

In Memory

Just a quick note to pass our condolances onto Gummybear's family after loving Husband and Father Roy passed away today peacefully. Aged 60 and a local resident of nearly 40 years, he was surely taken before his time.

An avid supporter of the tunnel and a regular visitor to both the northern and southern ends since the start, and a great assistance in running this website, he will be sorely missed.
